Terry Marsh – Founder and Instructor

Terry is well known in the Kitsap music community and has the reputation of being a very well rounded drummer and instructor.

Terry got his musical start in the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps. He finished his percussion performance degree at Washington State University in 1997. He then won an audition with the prestigious Air Force Band of Liberty in Boston, Massachusetts. While in Boston, Marsh was a regular with many local jazz and rock bands.  He and his wife Tracie, were members of the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2001 to 2004, Terry and Tracie toured the world on board cruise ships. Being members of theatre show bands, the couple backed up numerous performers and entertainers.

Moving to Poulsbo in 2004,  Terry found a nitch amongst advanced level drum students and school marching percussion programs. Since 2004, the Den has produced 7 state champions and has helped many students move onto college level music programs. Currently, Mr. Marsh is a professional working musician as well as great educator. He is a member of “Soul Siren”, “Hit Sensation”, The Tracie Marsh Band, The Jazz Ambassadors, and runs the Drummers Den.

Kevin Blackwood, Affiliate Instructor

Kevin has been playing drums for over 25 years. During these years, he’s had the opportunity to play with many great artists that span eclectic genres. Kevin has played over 1000 gigs during his career. Studio recording is another specialty and he has been on over 30 albums that span from rock to gospel, jazz to ethnic percussion.

Growing up in the Seattle area he was a big part of playing during the Seattle scene in the 1990’s, getting to open shows for such acts as No Doubt, R L Burnside, Gruntruck, Dishwalla and many other fabulous known artists. After that season, he wanted to be more well rounded and started playing jazz and other styles such as funk, streetbeat (newOrleans) and many other ethnic styles.

After teaching for nearly 10 years he continues to expand and push the envelope of fusing different styles together for cool grooves and building solos that flow for drumming that not only feels good but is musical. Studying with Kevin will teach you the fundamentals you need to get out in the world and start gigging. With a little hard work on your part, drumming can be a very enjoyable experience that will last a lifetime.
